Sherry is a self-taught traditional artist whose work encompasses landscapes, florals, and wildlife. Her art is characterized by its intricate detail and lifelike quality. With a deep appreciation for nature, she seeks to capture the colors, moods, and atmosphere of the natural world. Drawing inspiration from the Ontario landscape, Sherry spends considerable time photographing its diverse scenery, flora, and fauna, which serve as the foundation for her paintings. She strives to depict scenes with minimal human impact, showcasing nature's untouched beauty.
Her wish is for those who view her work to gain a renewed sense of appreciation for the world around them, finding peace in its complex beauty.
For Sherry, there is a unique satisfaction in knowing that viewers can "get lost" in the fine details of each piece. In her words “The beauty I find in nature around me is what inspires my work, and my desire to preserve this vision is what motivates me to create.”
Sherry is an elected member of the Ontario Society of Artists. Her work is found in many private collections across Canada.
Sherry personally prepares all of her canvases by stretching them on custom keyed, professional stretcher bars. All of her canvas works are fully painted on the sides, coated with a removeable archival varnish and are ready to hang.
Q+A
Which piece of art you've created is your favourite, and why?
I actually have two favorite pieces of art, Autumn Reflections and Sérénité. I love the fine detail and colors that I was able to capture in these works.
What artists do you admire right now?
I aspire to Andrew Tischler's artistic style, his paintings of the New Zealand landscape are nothing short of stunning.
Best season of the year in Toronto
I love the autumn season, for the beautiful colors that start emerging and the cool, crisp air.
Why is art important to you?
I have always admired the work that goes into creating a realistic work of art on canvas. I love searching out all of the fine details that have been lovingly and meticulously applied to the canvas. To me, art is so much 'more' than a photograph as it is fascinating to study a piece of art and wonder on the process it took for the artist to get to the final brush stroke.
Why is it important for people to have art in their home or life?
I believe it is important for people to own art that moves them, that gives them a 'window' into another world creating a sense of wonder and peace. I think we all need that after a long, hectic day at work.
During my breaks, I tend to ...
Watch youtube painting videos, research different painting techniques and if time permits, photograph nature to use for reference material.
